Role overview

AVIXA is hiring a contract Associate Editor to assist the Digital Content Manager with editorial work that includes SEO-oriented writing and support for digital publishing. This is a mid-level position for someone with substantial experience in content writing and editing. Experience in AV, IT, or technology is a plus.

The role expects a fixed weekly commitment of 15 to 20 hours. The work schedule can be flexible, but the availability must remain consistent from week to week. The pay rate is $50 per hour.

Content creation

  • Research emerging AV topics relevant to North America and develop original article ideas and drafts.
  • Turn technical AV concepts into content that is easy to understand and engaging for a broad audience.
  • Keep up with changes in the industry, including technologies and market movements.

Editing and quality control

  • Refine internal and freelance submissions for clarity, flow, factual accuracy, and tonal consistency.
  • Give writers specific, helpful feedback and direction for revisions.
  • Make sure every piece matches the organization’s editorial guidelines and brand voice.
  • Act as the main editorial contact for assigned freelance contributors during the full content cycle.
  • Evaluate incoming drafts and guide revisions until the work meets editorial expectations.

Editorial coordination

  • Develop detailed briefs, outlines, and assignments for writers.
  • Monitor deadlines and keep content moving through the editorial workflow.
  • Stay in touch with contributors to help projects progress without delays.
  • Assist the Content Manager with upkeep of the editorial calendar.

SEO and content performance

  • Use basic keyword research and search trend analysis to shape content decisions.
  • Work with the Content Manager to help increase organic traffic.
  • Spot opportunities to update existing content, improve optimization, and strengthen internal linking.
  • Apply SEO best practices to editorial content without sacrificing quality.

Additional information

This role is aimed at experienced editorial professionals who can work independently, manage their own workload, and take initiative on new assignments. Candidates should be available during core business hours for team collaboration.

Application instructions

Applicants should send a resume and their strongest writing sample by email. The application email should explain why the sample was chosen, what would be improved if the piece were edited today, and identify one AV-related or technology trend that deserves more attention.
