Role Overview

The Associate Director, Social Media, will be instrumental in expanding Braven’s social media channels into vibrant platforms for storytelling, community engagement, and mission promotion. Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, this position is responsible for strategizing, creating, and managing social media content and communities, enhancing brand presence, and connecting with students, partners, and donors.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and lead the social media strategy across Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter (X), and emerging platforms, establishing clear goals, key performance indicators, and a content calendar aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to synchronize local social media efforts with national standards, providing guidance, templates, and feedback to maintain consistent branding across markets.
  • Stay informed on platform trends, algorithm updates, and relevant cultural moments to ensure content remains timely, engaging, and audience-focused.
  • Manage and grow Braven’s social media accounts with a consistent and energetic brand voice reflecting the Fellow community.
  • Create compelling, platform-specific content such as short-form videos, graphics, reels, carousels, and copy to highlight Fellow stories and program impacts.
  • Work with central and regional teams to identify and translate impactful narratives into engaging social posts.
  • Maintain an organized content library of evergreen assets, testimonials, and multimedia for cross-channel use.
  • Coordinate with the Associate, Communications and Marketing to further amplify stories of higher education partners.
  • Enhance community engagement by responding to comments, direct messages, and mentions promptly and authentically.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with student ambassadors, Fellows, and aligned influencers to increase Braven’s organic reach.
  • Monitor social media metrics including reach, engagement, follower growth, and conversions; analyze data to refine and improve strategy.
  • Present regular performance insights and strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing social media for organizations, including content creation and strategic planning.
  • Proficient in producing short-form videos and visual content using tools like CapCut, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar software.
  • Proven success in growing social media audiences and fostering meaningful engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within nonprofit, higher education, or social impact sectors.
  • Familiarity with social media management platforms such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or Later, including analytics tools.
  • Background in paid social advertising and boosting content strategies.
  • Strong copywriting abilities with adaptability for different platforms and target audiences.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup-like environment with a small team and high levels of responsibility.
  • Self-driven with the capacity to manage projects from conception through completion and to embrace ambiguity.
  • Commitment to cultivating inclusive and supportive workplace cultures.
  • Alignment with Braven’s core values and mission.

Work Requirements

  • Work onsite three days per week (Tuesday through Thursday) in one of the hub locations: Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL (preferred); New York, NY; or Newark, NJ; with remote work on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Ability to travel to quarterly retreats and other events with the External Affairs team.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is competitive and benchmarked against nonprofit market standards, based on geographic location and qualifications, with a salary growth trajectory based on performance. Salary ranges (based on a 50-hour work week) are approximately $79,200-$87,100 (Atlanta), $83,600-$92,000 (Chicago), and $92,000-$101,100 (New York/Newark). Salary offers aim to maintain internal and external equity with no negotiations expected.
