Role Overview

The Associate Director of Transportation will oversee vital functions such as contract oversight, billing, Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) operations, auditing, budget management, and grant projects. This role partners closely with the Director of Transportation to ensure smooth operations, adherence to regulations, efficient financial practices, and high-quality customer care. The position is a leadership role responsible for administrative and operational management, staff support, contractor relations, grant compliance, and process enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage operational support activities ensuring effective transportation services.
• Administer contracts and maintain contractor partnerships.
• Utilize data analytics to optimize transportation functions and performance.
• Oversee budgeting processes, financial management, and procurement.
• Lead grant and project management efforts to support transportation initiatives.
• Engage with stakeholders and the community to align transportation services.
• Produce reports and conduct program evaluations for continuous improvement.
• Collaborate across the organization to promote leadership and teamwork.
• Guide and develop team members within the Transportation Department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation Management, Finance, Project Management, Logistics, or related fields.
• Between five to seven years of advancing experience in transportation operations, program administration, grant management, contract oversight, or related areas.
• At least three years of supervisory or leadership experience.
• Background in managing budgets, grants, contracts, and operational reporting.
• Experience with public funding and regulatory compliance in transportation contexts.
• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
• Experience working within nonprofit, public transit, paratransit, NEMT, or human services organizations.
• Familiarity with administering FTA Section 5310 or comparable grant-funded transportation programs.
• Knowledge of scheduling, dispatch, and reporting systems in transportation.
• Strong understanding of transportation operations, contract management, grants, and financial oversight.
• Insight into federal, state, and local transportation regulations and funding guidelines.
• Proficient analytical, budgeting, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to interpret complex operational and financial data into practical recommendations.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Aptitude for fostering strong relationships with contractors, government bodies, community groups, and other stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, reporting software, and transportation management platforms.
• Capability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual salary ranging from $115,000 to $130,000, commensurate with experience.
