Job description
Role Overview
Johns Hopkins Athletics is seeking an innovative leader to serve as Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Events in Baltimore, Maryland. This full-time role sits within a broad collegiate sports environment that includes 22 NCAA Division III programs, along with men’s and women’s lacrosse competing at the NCAA Division I level in the Big Ten Conference. The department also supports club sports, intramurals, and fitness programming.
The position is designed for someone who can help advance the mission and standards of the athletics department and the university while contributing to a culture of inclusion, student support, and professional growth. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a fast-moving, collaborative setting and able to build strong working relationships across staff, coaches, student-athletes, and campus partners.
Facilities and Events Leadership
This role oversees athletic facilities and event operations across internal and external activities. It requires consistent attention to facility readiness, maintenance, staffing, scheduling, and communication so that all users have a high-quality experience.
The associate director will help shape future plans, support departmental goals, and lead efforts that strengthen the student experience through athletics and recreation.
Essential Duties
- Direct daily operations of athletic facilities, including scheduling, upkeep, improvements, equipment oversight, and overall readiness.
- Lead event management for both internal and external events within the athletics and recreation space, including staffing, security, and operational planning.
- Support events such as home contests, conference and NCAA championship events, student gatherings, campus events, and outside rentals.
- Assist with facility budget oversight and help generate departmental revenue through rentals, camps, clinics, and related activities.
- Supervise the facilities and events staff, including 6 full-time employees and more than 20 undergraduate interns and student staff members.
- Serve as the department’s contact for Plant Operations and Campus Safety and Security.
- Work with campus partners in Student Affairs and JHFRE.
- Partner with the Senior Associate Athletic Director to assess risk across department facilities in coordination with the Office of Risk Management and General Counsel.
- May act as sport administrator for varsity teams, with responsibilities that can include program oversight, direct supervision and evaluation of head coaches, budget monitoring, NCAA compliance, and supporting an environment that promotes academic and competitive success.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
The role requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of experience in athletics facilities and event management, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience. Prior experience hiring or supervising staff is preferred.
Work Environment
This is a full-time fiscal-year appointment. The schedule includes frequent early mornings, evenings, and weekends throughout the year, reflecting the demands of athletics and event operations.
