Overview

The Subject Matter Stream (SMS) team at BNP Paribas is responsible for month-end financial closing, oversight of daily transactions, operational controls, and ensuring accurate revenue recording from various activities. The team performs initial controls to guarantee the integrity and quality of data used for reporting, covering multiple legal entities and adhering to both Belgian GAAP and IFRS standards.

Position Purpose

This role ensures delivery of precise and comprehensive segmented financial data necessary for all reporting channels, through execution of detailed financial control plans and close monitoring of data quality. Responsibilities include posting journal entries, ledger controls, and providing support in business-as-usual and ad hoc tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee preparation and recording of daily and monthly accounting entries like accruals and provisions.
  • Ensure rigorous controls to maintain ledger data quality.
  • Monitor and reconcile ledgers with source data, identifying and addressing discrepancies.
  • Analyze transactional activity to detect posting errors and backdated transactions.
  • Perform account and transaction analysis, conduct variance reviews, highlight trends, and address questions.
  • Prepare month-end substantiations, balance sign-offs, and maintain supporting documentation across entities.
  • Respond to external and internal audit inquiries, including from regulators and control teams.
  • Manage issue follow-up and escalation to ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain daily control books and ensure OFS ledger data accuracy.
  • Account for overheads, payroll, employee benefits, and depreciation/amortization with proper classifications.
  • Convert accounting data into management accounting reports following MARP principles.
  • Handle accounting schema understanding, intercompany reconciliations, and related documentation support.
  • Aid in preparation and reporting of intercompany transactions including transfer pricing local files.
  • Drive data quality initiatives and address related ad hoc requests.
  • Conduct financial reporting and analysis for entities involved in global market, banking, and financing activities.
  • Support the compilation of financial statements in Belgian GAAP and IFRS formats.
  • Participate in system upgrades and assist with testing and troubleshooting of reporting tools.
  • Propose operational improvements to streamline workflows and enhance team efficiency.
  • Adhere strictly to bank policies and procedures.
  • Support special projects as assigned by management.
  • Contribute to finance project user acceptance testing and provide timely approvals.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong capability to work effectively under pressure in complex environments with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent data analysis and mining skills.
  • Highly organized with an ability to plan proactively and prioritize effectively.
  • Meticulous adherence to implementation practices and control cultures.
  • Sound knowledge of financial accounting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Access, and Business Object; knowledge of SQL, Macros, and VBA is advantageous.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities and delivering results within deadlines.
  • Strong team collaboration and client-focus mindset.
  • Demonstrated adaptability, process development skills, and performance measurement setup.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should hold a CA degree with financial accounting experience or a postgraduate degree in Finance (MBA Finance) or commerce (B.Com, M.Com) accompanied by relevant financial accounting background. Prior experience in banking financial accounting and control functions is preferred.

This role is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, specifically Goregaon or Thane.
