Assistant Researcher in Neurodegenerative Disease Molecular Biology

Position Overview

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology invites applications for an Assistant Researcher position to contribute to experimental studies investigating molecular and cellular aspects of neurodegenerative disorders. Candidates will participate in laboratory investigations involving cell assays, protein examination, tissue staining, data handling, and general lab support.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct molecular and cellular biology experiments such as Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and mammalian cell culture.
• Organize, analyze, and document experimental outcomes accurately.
• Maintain mammalian cell lines using sterile techniques and prepare laboratory reagents, media, and samples.
• Support imaging, sample preparation, and collection of experimental data, including coding and visualization of multiomic data using R.
• Assist with lab operations including inventory management, equipment maintenance, and adherence to safety protocols.
• Collaborate effectively with faculty, trainees, and lab personnel to support research activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, cell biology, or related field, or alternatively, a high school diploma with at least four years of relevant experience.
• Minimum of one year of practical laboratory experience specializing in molecular or cellular biology techniques.
• Proficiency with Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, cell culture methods, and strict adherence to laboratory protocols.
• Demonstrated strong organizational abilities and meticulous attention to lab record-keeping.
• Ability to operate both independently and cooperatively within research teams.

Preferred Experience

• Prior research experience related to Alzheimer's disease, neurodegeneration, neuroscience, or closely related biomedical fields.
• Familiarity with R programming for data analysis and visualization.
• Knowledge of microscopy, image processing, protein quantification, and cell-based assays.
• Experience in academic research laboratory environments.
