Job description

About the role and team

Disney Consumer Products creates imaginative, uplifting, and inclusive merchandise experiences for families and fans worldwide. Its products span toys, apparel, books, games, and more, and are distributed through channels such as Disney Store ecommerce, Disney Parks, and retail partners across global markets.

The company is hiring an Assistant Product Designer with an apparel background to help develop projects for the apparel team and, when needed, manage a small single category. The role supports the creation of consumer-focused, trend-right product lines that meet quality standards, strengthen the brand, and achieve financial goals. Product work may include adult, youth, and infant apparel.

This position reports to the Manager, Product Design and is a full-time role.

A digital portfolio is required. Candidates should provide access or remove passwords so the portfolio can be reviewed without delay.

What you will do

  • Work with the apparel product design team on concepts, sketches, prototypes, art-to-product development, and sample creation where needed, while helping deliver trend-right products with strong value and innovation.
  • Help prepare presentation materials such as room layouts, product mockups, boards, and line review decks.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to support product design and approvals across the full process.
  • Coordinate submissions for creative review and design approvals.
  • Keep product and market samples organized, maintain storage areas, and make sure the spaces stay tidy.
  • Sort and file duplicate samples and submissions for team members based in other offices.
  • Support the design team in PLM and other design development tools, keeping product information current throughout the sample and development cycle.
  • Track competitors, innovation, and market trends, and research seasonal trends by category.
  • Balance several projects at once, stay organized to deadlines, and adjust quickly when priorities change.

Required qualifications and skills

  • Early-career experience in apparel product design.
  • Working knowledge of softlines, including raw materials, textiles, trims, treatments, printing, pattern work, graphic composition, and manufacturing; familiarity with sustainable materials is an advantage.
  • Understanding of garment fit and construction; knowledge of infant and youth safety standards is a plus.
  • Ability to work with graphic and artwork applications, including preparing production-ready files that clearly communicate intended execution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas positively and accept feedback constructively.
  • Solid apparel design ability, including garment sketching, graphic design, illustration, art manipulation, final mechanical art, and fabric and trim identification.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Prior exposure to 3D garment design tools such as CLO is advantageous.
  • Self-driven problem solver with strong attention to detail, good calendar discipline, and the ability to anticipate team needs.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in a related area such as industrial design, interior design, fashion design, or graphic design with product application is preferred, though equivalent practical experience may also be considered.
