Job description
About the role
This position sits within Disney Consumer Products, where the team develops imaginative, inclusive products that bring beloved franchises into everyday life across channels such as e-commerce, retail stores, parks, and global retail partners.
As an Assistant Product Designer focused on apparel, you will help the apparel design teams deliver specific projects and may independently manage a small single category when needed. The role supports the creation of consumer-focused, trend-driven product lines that maintain brand value and help achieve financial goals. The assortment includes adult, youth, and infant apparel.
You will report to the Manager, Product Design. This is a full-time onsite position. A digital portfolio is required for review, and any passwords should be shared or removed to make access easier.
Key responsibilities
- Support the apparel product design team through concept development, sketches, prototypes, art-to-product work, and sample creation when needed, while helping present modern, consumer-focused products with strong value at each price tier.
- Help prepare design presentations, including room setup, product mockups, presentation boards, and line review materials.
- Work with internal and external partners to support product development, design decisions, and approval workflows.
- Organize product submissions for creative review and track approvals with the design team.
- Manage product and market samples for the product design team, keeping storage areas tidy and organized.
- Sort, file, and maintain duplicate samples and submissions for team members located in other offices.
- Assist with the PLM system and other design development tools, ensuring sample and development records stay current throughout the process.
- Observe competitors, product innovation, and market trends, and research seasonal category trends at the start of each season.
- Handle multiple projects at once, prioritize work to meet timelines, and adjust smoothly when plans change.
Required qualifications and skills
- Entry-level experience in apparel product design.
- Working knowledge of softlines, including raw materials, textiles, trims, finishes, prints, patterns, graphic composition, and manufacturing; familiarity with sustainable materials is an advantage.
- Understanding of garment fit and construction, with awareness of infant and youth safety standards considered a plus.
- Knowledge of graphic and artwork application techniques, including preparing production-ready files that clearly communicate the intended product outcome.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas positively while remaining open to feedback.
- Well-developed product design abilities, such as garment sketching, graphic design, illustration, creative art manipulation, final mechanical art, and fabric/trim identification.
- Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Experience with 3D apparel design tools such as CLO is beneficial.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive, with strong ownership, schedule discipline, and problem-solving skills.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as industrial design, interior design, fashion design, or graphic design with product application, or equivalent work experience, is required.
