Job description
Position Overview
The Assistant Men's Water Polo Coach will contribute to the comprehensive management and advancement of the UCLA water polo program. This role encompasses assisting with practice plans, preparing for competitions, recruiting student-athletes, managing administrative responsibilities, and undertaking special assignments, all while adhering to the policies established by the University of California system, UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, the conference, and the NCAA.
Compensation Details
UCLA offers a salary range that factors in experience, skills, expertise, educational background, credentials, and other business elements. Compensation at the higher end of the scale is uncommon. Employees receive benefits starting from their first day of work, including access to a comprehensive UC benefits package and total compensation estimations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning and preparation of athletic practices and competitive games.
- Assist in recruiting and developing high-level collegiate athletes for the program.
- Handle various administrative tasks and special projects relevant to the team.
- Travel approximately 20% of the time for team competitions and related activities.
- Uphold compliance with NCAA Division I rules and UCLA fiscal and ethical policies.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level (preferred).
- Demonstrated experience in managing budgets and fiscal responsibilities.
- Proven success in recruiting, developing, and training elite collegiate athletes.
- Exceptional communication skills for effective interaction with athletes, staff, and external contacts.
- Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the program.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA Division I regulations and a record of compliance.
- Willingness to comply with UCLA's policies on ethics, compliance, and fiscal responsibility.
Educational Credentials and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid California noncommercial Class C driver's license upon hiring.
- Current certifications in CPR, first aid, and AED must be obtained and provided within 30 days of employment, with job duties restricted until certification submission.
Additional Employment Conditions
- Employment contingent upon a successful background investigation, including Live Scan fingerprinting.
- Subject to California DMV 'Pull Notice System' for driving record verification.
- Designated mandatory reporter under the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), requiring signed acknowledgment of reporting responsibilities.
Work Schedule and Policy Coverage
The schedule is variable, and this position is policy covered under union 99 guidelines.
