Role Overview
The Assistant Manager for Tourism Marketing & Groups is responsible for driving and growing the Whitney Museum's group visitation segment, targeting tourism, affinity groups, social, corporate, VIP, and education-focused audiences. This position also supports broader marketing efforts aimed at boosting tourism and local visitor engagement to increase museum attendance and revenue.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead domestic and international group sales strategies covering diverse audiences such as students, adults, seniors, corporates, and affinity groups.
- Handle inbound group inquiries and bookings, ensuring excellent service and prompt follow-up to encourage repeat visits and maximize engagement value.
- Co-manage group pricing, promotional packages, and collaborations with departments like Marketing, Visitor Experience, Education, dining, and retail to enhance revenue and offerings.
- Introduce and refine systems to streamline the booking process and improve sales efficiency.
- Implement marketing campaigns across multiple channels such as email, direct mail, digital advertising to promote group and tourism attendance.
- Provide assistance on additional marketing initiatives supporting local tourism and audience growth aligned with revenue targets.
- Maintain strong relationship management with group leaders, tour operators, travel agents, and online travel agencies to foster ongoing business.
- Collaborate with tourism partners including NYC Tourism, Meatpacking BID, and other community organizations, supporting contract discussions and developing marketing materials.
- Represent the Whitney at industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities to elevate the Museum's profile as a leading cultural destination.
- Coordinate with Visitor Experience, Education, and Public Programs to ensure a smooth, enriching visit for all groups.
- Oversee scheduling for guided tours, private events, and special experiences while partnering with educational staff and volunteers to optimize operations.
- Create and deploy resources such as itineraries, digital guides, and pre-visit materials to enrich group visits.
- Act as on-site liaison for VIP and priority group visits as needed.
- Support and guide the Group Sales & Engagement assistant role.
- Ensure accurate data maintenance in CRM and ticketing systems; liaise with Business Systems, Technology teams, and ticket vendors to advocate for group services.
- Produce regular reports detailing group sales performance and visitor data; explore new audience growth opportunities and assist annual planning for marketing and group initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience, preferably in tourism, marketing, arts administration, or similar fields.
- Between 3 and 5 years of experience in group sales, marketing, tourism, or audience engagement, ideally within museums, cultural institutions, attractions, or hospitality sectors.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating a customer-oriented approach and professionalism appropriate for representing a prestigious institution.
- Proven track record of achieving sales goals and cultivating business relationships.
- Experience using CRM or ticketing platforms such as ACME, Tessitura, or Salesforce highly preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic environment.
- Passion for contemporary art, tourism, and understanding of the Whitney Museum’s mission.
