Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Manager or Manager to lead surface treatment operations focused on blasting and painting within wind tower production. This role involves ensuring that surface preparation and coating tasks adhere strictly to client and international coating specifications while meeting quality, safety, and production targets. The ideal candidate must have a valid NACE Level II Coating Inspector Certification and significant hands-on experience in surface treatment for heavy engineering fields like wind tower manufacturing and structural steel.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, supervise, and oversee blasting, painting, and coating activities to achieve production goals.
- Guarantee all surface prep and painting comply with approved coating standards, client requirements, and quality benchmarks.
- Perform verification of blast cleanliness, surface profiling, environmental conditions, dry and wet film thickness, adhesion and holiday testing, and overall coating quality.
- Monitor blasting media quality, ensure correct paint mixing ratios, curing times, and coating application parameters.
- Maintain adherence to international standards like NACE, SSPC, ISO, and client-specific coating specifications.
- Collaborate with departments including Production, Quality Assurance, Planning, Maintenance, and Dispatch for timely job completion.
- Manage and maintain detailed reports on production, paint consumption, productivity, and coating inspections.
- Implement process controls to optimize paint usage and reduce waste.
- Oversee safe storage, handling, and shelf-life tracking of paints, thinners, blasting abrasives, and other coating materials.
- Lead and direct blasting and painting teams, including inspectors and contract labor.
- Conduct root cause analysis on coating defects and initiate corrective and preventive measures.
- Ensure compliance with occupational safety procedures when handling related equipment and hazardous chemicals.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing principles, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement efforts within the Surface Treatment unit.
- Participate actively in customer, third-party inspections, and internal quality audits.
Candidate Profile
- Diploma, B.E., or B.Tech degree in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgical, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Mandatory possession of valid NACE Level II Coating Inspector Certification.
- 10 to 15 years of comprehensive experience in surface treatment, blasting, and painting operations, preferably within wind tower manufacturing, heavy engineering, structural steel, pressure vessel, shipbuilding, oil & gas, or EPC sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of blasting standards, coating systems, industrial paints, and inspection techniques.
- Practical experience with automated/manual blasting and painting machinery.
- Good familiarity with customer standards, quality documentation, and coating inspection protocols.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems considered advantageous.
- Experience working with ERP/SAP software and MS Office suite.
- Strong leadership capabilities paired with excellent communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Desired Skills
- Expertise in epoxy, polyurethane, zinc-rich primer, and multi-coat painting systems for wind towers.
- Knowledgeable about airless spray painting equipment, blast machines, paint curing technology, and environmental condition monitoring.
- Competence in managing coating inspection documentation and customer as well as third-party inspection processes.
- Familiarity with international coating standards and client-specific painting methods.
