About the school

Shenton College is building a talent pool for Assistant Gardener - Handyperson roles that may be filled on a permanent or fixed-term basis, with both full-time and part-time options, during the 2026/2027 school year. Appointments may start from the beginning of Term 3, 2026 and can run through to the end of Term 2, 2027. Vacancies may be filled from this pool at any stage within that window.

Role overview

Reporting to the Head Gardener, the successful applicant will join a team focused on keeping the college grounds and facilities well maintained, safe, visually appealing and welcoming for students, staff and visitors.

This role calls for someone dependable, self-directed and practical, with a solid understanding of gardening methods, plants and garden machinery. You will be expected to work on your own when required, but also contribute positively as part of a team. Alongside regular grounds care, duties include minor repairs, upkeep of tools and equipment, and other gardening or handyperson tasks as needed. Experience in gardening, grounds upkeep or a handyperson position will be an advantage.

Eligibility and checks

To be eligible for this role, you must hold or obtain a valid Working With Children Check. You must also agree to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and secure a current Screening Clearance Number from the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before commencement.

Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, or hold a valid visa with the right to work for the full appointment period. Additional eligibility and training requirements are included in the attached JDF.
