Job description

Position Summary

This role supports the Director of Nutrition Services in managing the day-to-day running of an Opaa! Food Management account. The position combines operational, administrative, compliance, supervisory, and client-facing duties to help keep kitchen and nutrition services functions running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Production and Daily Operations

  • Arrange substitute coverage whenever staffing gaps arise.
  • Move food products between district buildings as needed each day.
  • Step in to cover duties of front-line staff when substitute workers are unavailable.
  • Maintain a tidy, clean, and well-organized office workspace.

Compliance and Quality Standards

  • Model Opaa!’s core values and escalate concerns to the Director of Nutrition Services without delay.
  • Follow company recipes and menu requirements accurately.
  • Help maintain production records in line with Opaa! and Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requirements.
  • Support the achievement of company-set goals and cost control targets.
  • Help prepare monthly in-service sessions, NAC meetings, and other group meetings as needed.
  • Support the marketing program according to Opaa! program standards.
  • Track HACCP procedures and ensure hot and cold temperatures are recorded correctly.
  • Help reconcile daily tray counts against cashier reports.

Administrative Duties

  • Enter invoices, participation data, and other required information into the remote system accurately each day.
  • Reconcile daily cash reports and prepare receipts for deposit where applicable.
  • Update weekly inventory spreadsheets so food and supply values remain accurate.
  • Assist with combining weekly food orders before submission to prime vendor, milk vendor, and bread vendor.
  • Help coordinate catering events so special functions are executed at a high standard.

Supervision and Team Support

  • Support the DNS in directing, scheduling, and overseeing all subordinate staff activities.
  • Help address staff performance concerns and workplace conflicts promptly.
  • Train, cross-train, and certify kitchen team members across job duties.
  • Oversee cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, coolers, freezers, and storage spaces.

Client and Stakeholder Relations

  • Maintain open, effective communication with customers and work to support client satisfaction.
  • Help prepare and present a monthly status report to the Board of Education.
  • Assist with marketing events in line with Opaa! guidelines.
  • Support catering coordination for successful special events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This job involves a physically active work environment. The employee is frequently expected to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, kneel, crawl, push, pull, grasp, feel, taste, smell, speak, listen, and reach with the hands and arms. The role may require exerting more than 60 pounds of force occasionally and regularly moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Required vision abilities include sustained attention, depth perception, clear focus, and color recognition.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with six months to one year of relevant experience.

Applicants should be able to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write basic correspondence; and present information clearly in one-on-one and small group settings. The role also requires basic math ability, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, working with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and calculating rates, ratios, percentages, and bar graphs.

Candidates must be able to use commonsense judgment to follow detailed but straightforward verbal or written instructions and handle issues involving a limited number of concrete variables in standardized situations.

Tools and equipment commonly used in this role include dishwashers, steamers/kettles, mixers, ovens, stoves, fryers, slicers, thermometers, gauges, knives, box cutters, meal counting software, desktop computers, calculators, telephones, fax machines, scanners, copiers, and printers.
