Role overview

UC Santa Barbara is seeking a full-time Assistant Coach for the men’s and women’s swim program in Santa Barbara, California. This role supports the Head Coach in building and running a disciplined, competitive, and comprehensive intercollegiate athletics program, grounded in effective teaching methods and compliance with all applicable standards.

Key duties

The assistant coach will help design, oversee, and put into action the swim program while contributing to team development and day-to-day program operations.

Responsibilities and compliance

  • Support the Head Coach in planning and delivering a strong intercollegiate athletics program.
  • Help supervise and implement a structured, competitive team environment.
  • Apply sound teaching principles in coaching and athlete development.
  • Follow all relevant local, state, federal, NCAA, Big West Conference, University, and Department of Athletics rules, policies, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent mix of experience and training.
  • At least 1 to 3 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Current NCAA Certified Recruiter status must be maintained.
  • Active CPR/AED and First Aid certification must be maintained.

Compensation

The position has a budgeted annual salary range of $35,287 to $41,280. Final pay will depend on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience, along with the position budget and the University’s pay practices.

About the athletics department

UCSB Athletics is based at UC Santa Barbara on the Pacific coast. The university is a top-10 public institution and a member of the Association of American Universities. The athletics department fields 20 intercollegiate teams and supports 450 student-athletes competing for Big West Conference and NCAA Division I championships. The Gauchos have earned a record 10 Big West Conference Commissioner’s Cups.
