Job description

Position Overview

The University of Akron seeks an Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing to oversee the athletics marketing and promotional activities, with a primary goal of enhancing ticket sales. This role involves crafting and implementing strategic marketing initiatives across multiple intercollegiate sports, focusing especially on football, basketball, and soccer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing strategies aimed at boosting ticket sales and community engagement.
  • Oversee creation of ticketing materials, marketing communications, and manage advanced promotion schedules.
  • Coordinate community outreach programs and appearances representing the athletics department, dedicating approximately 75% of the time to these functions.
  • Manage game-day operations including scripting and timing for 18 Division 1 FBS sports teams.
  • Act as the liaison between the athletics department and external partners including advertising agencies, media buyers, university marketing teams, student fan organizations, and the band, accounting for around 15% of role duties.
  • Collaborate with outsourced personnel to manage sponsorship inventory related to Peak Sports, constituting roughly 10% of responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a relevant Bachelor’s degree is mandatory.
  • At least two years of experience in sports marketing and promotions, with a preference for those experienced in collegiate athletics or minor league sports marketing.
  • Strong skills in organization, communication, strategic planning, creativity, and customer relations are essential.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and design software such as InDesign and Photoshop is required.
  • Preferred candidates will demonstrate abilities in sales, marketing, and customer service sectors.
