Asset Protection Specialist

About the Role

This position focuses on accurately identifying, marking, and safeguarding underground network assets. The role uses a company vehicle together with a laptop and smartphone to provide clear, complete locate information to excavators and property owners.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect areas thoroughly for underground utilities, mark them correctly, and complete the required documentation to close out each locate.
• Use sub-site and handheld locating systems to support installation work for underground telecom conduit, including fiber optic cable.
• Help protect the public and underground utility infrastructure by following safe locating practices.
• Confirm that all required permits and locates are finished and available on site.
• Carry out all work in line with safety rules and use the appropriate protective equipment.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and respond to the company’s 48-hour locate turnaround expectation, which may require working after holidays and on some weekends.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of hands-on experience using geophysical multi-frequency locating equipment in the underground utility locating field, such as with a contract locating company or a major utility provider.
• Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions and in confined spaces.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and mapping tools such as ERIS and Google Earth.
• Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends when needed.
• A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining a professional and positive approach.
• Capacity to handle a heavy workload and work in a busy office environment.
• Ability to travel up to 20%.
• Availability for flexible schedules, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
• Physical capability to stand and walk for long periods, climb, bend, crouch, push, pull, carry, reach overhead, and lift weights ranging from 1-15 lbs, 15-30 lbs, and more than 30 lbs on a continuous basis.
• Manual dexterity for repetitive medium and fine hand movements, with occasional use of foot controls.
• Good hearing, near vision, far vision, and peripheral vision; depth perception may be needed occasionally.
• Exposure may include cold, heat, damp conditions, heights, vibration, skin irritants, dust, and fumes or gases.
• Use of ladders, hand and power tools, vans, forklifts, and pallet jacks in the work environment.
• Must hold a driver’s license.

This job involves a mix of field and office duties, frequent movement, and outdoor work. The role can include stressful situations, a large workload, and variable scheduling to meet operational deadlines.
