About the Role

The Lansing School District educates more than 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in Lansing, Michigan. The district’s shared purpose is to deliver a high-quality education in an environment that is both safe and supportive.

The district is seeking new art teachers who can provide strong, specialty-focused instruction while helping create classrooms where students feel respected, included, and able to collaborate toward shared learning goals. In this role, you will work closely with students, families, fellow teachers, and school leaders to support an excellent educational experience.

  • Deliver engaging art instruction with strong subject-matter expertise and enthusiasm.
  • Use student data to adjust teaching and differentiate lessons effectively.
  • Continue developing professionally by applying input from administrators, peers, students, and training sessions.
  • Develop positive connections with students and parents to maintain a safe, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as needed to support the district’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in education or in an art-related practice.
  • Prior experience working with children.
  • A clear alignment with Lansing School District’s mission and values.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A valid Michigan teaching certificate with a specialty endorsement such as LX, LQ, LZ, or OX.
  • Teaching experience in an urban school setting.
  • Training in CRPBIS and related instructional approaches.

Additional Information

The district is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and provides equal opportunity to all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or sexual orientation. It values a workplace where different perspectives strengthen both staff development and student experiences.

Internal mobility is encouraged, and internal candidates may be identified as strong internal candidates before a role is publicly posted. Applicants are still encouraged to apply. All positions remain open for at least 10 days unless otherwise noted, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

External applicants interested in multiple jobs within the same department only need to apply to one posting and can note other interests in the final question. Internal applicants should use their SSO email address and submit separate applications for each role they want to be considered for.

If selected, the district will reach out to schedule an interview. Because of the number of applications received, feedback may not always be provided quickly. This job summary is not exhaustive; responsibilities may change or expand as needed, including depending on funding sources.

Applicants should complete the online application at their earliest convenience.
