Job description

Overview

Fortescue is hiring an Approvals Planning Specialist to support the design and delivery of approval pathways across a broad set of projects, operating assets and future growth initiatives. The role sits at the crossroads of approvals, strategic planning, innovation and execution, with a strong focus on turning complex requirements into practical advice that helps guide schedules, risks and key decisions.

The position is based in Perth, Western Australia, on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people. The working roster is Monday to Friday.

Fortescue is looking for a person who is naturally inquisitive, self-driven and ready to work through complex challenges. You will collaborate across multiple disciplines and help create more connected, efficient and transparent ways to plan and manage approvals. The role also contributes to the ongoing modernisation of approvals planning through integrated scheduling, GIS, data-led reporting and new AI-enabled ways of working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with project, technical, operations and approvals teams to identify required approvals, possible pathways, related risks and key dependencies.
  • Create practical approvals strategies and pathway recommendations that align with business goals, project timelines and delivery needs.
  • Run approvals planning meetings, workshops and forums, and prepare clear supporting documents and materials.
  • Keep project approval information current in the Integrated Approvals Schedule and use it to monitor progress, evaluate delivery status and assist with decision-making.
  • Prepare and coordinate timely approvals reporting, including priorities, risks, mitigations and overall progress updates.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in approvals planning, including the use of GIS, digital systems, automation and AI-supported methods.
  • Help maintain a safe working culture across all activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience preparing, coordinating or securing approvals, or supporting complex projects, operations or essential business programs.
  • Strong capability in planning, coordination and project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complicated approval pathways into straightforward and practical guidance.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and able to exercise good judgement, curiosity and a willingness to question traditional approaches.
  • Experience with GIS, integrated schedules, dashboards or similar digital planning tools for planning, reporting or delivery support.
  • Clear commitment to maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Agile and adaptable mindset, comfortable working in a fast-moving environment and collaborating to achieve results.
  • Positive team contributor who communicates openly, shares knowledge and supports colleagues in meeting shared goals.
