About the role

Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is seeking an Anaesthetic Technician to join its perioperative team in Auckland. In this position, you will work closely with anaesthetists to support safe, high-standard anaesthetic care and help ensure each patient’s surgical experience is managed smoothly from beginning to end.

You will be based in the operating theatre and provide technically skilled, compassionate care in a culturally responsive setting that centres patients and their whānau. The role sits within a collaborative, high-performing team where trust, teamwork, and shared goals are valued.

This is a permanent position with rostered shifts, and the organisation is open to candidates seeking between 0.8 and 1.0 FTE.

About the hospital

Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical inpatient hospital on Auckland’s North Shore. The site includes 8 operating rooms, a 14-bed post anaesthetic care unit, a modern day stay facility, and a 70-bed ward with a 4-bed intermediate care facility.

The hospital supports a broad range of surgical specialties, including general surgery, gynaecology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, urology, orthopaedic surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, otolaryngology, and robotic surgery. The wider North Shore campus also offers a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology, and more.

Skills and experience

  • Current New Zealand registration as an Anaesthetic Technician with an approved qualification, or a registered nurse holding a current practising certificate and anaesthetic credentials
  • Strong working knowledge of perioperative anaesthetic equipment, processes, and current best practice
  • Confidence working safely and effectively in a busy surgical environment
  • Clear communication skills and a cooperative, team-oriented approach
  • A proactive attitude and strong focus on delivering excellent patient care
  • Ability to contribute effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts
