About the Role
South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is seeking Ambulance Dispatchers to join their Emergency Operations Centre team. Dispatchers play a vital role in managing and deploying Trust vehicles effectively to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls across the service area. The position operates on a 24/7 basis throughout the year, with shift work covering nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and dispatch ambulance services promptly and accurately in response to emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Ensure efficient allocation and management of vehicles within the Trust's area of operations.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English or an equivalent qualification.
- Proficient keyboard skills for data entry and system navigation.
- Strong oral communication abilities for clear and concise interaction.
- Capacity to handle situations tactfully and diplomatically.
- Willingness to work shifts according to a comprehensive 24/7 rota.
- Ability to maintain calmness and professionalism under pressure.
Additional Information
- The role is shift-based, covering around-the-clock service 365 days a year; an example shift pattern is available in supplementary documentation.
- Unsocial hours will be compensated under Section 2 of the NHS Terms and Conditions (Agenda for Change).
- Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in an assessment centre.
- Part-time working hours can be accommodated through flexible working applications.
- This recruitment forms part of a holding pool for future course intakes.
