About the team
Join the Airfield Team in a fast-moving airport environment where the main focus is keeping aircraft operations safe at all times, including during airfield works. The team plays a vital part in protecting the movement of aircraft, vehicles, and people, while making sure civil aviation requirements and health and safety obligations are followed. The team also records incidents and observations accurately and works to resolve issues quickly. The group includes 3 experienced Team Leaders.
Key responsibilities
- Support planning and preparation for airside works by helping define site limits, making sure aircraft movement is never put at risk, and confirming that all permits and required documentation are in place.
- Work closely with Airfield Operations, Air Traffic Control, and contractors to coordinate work zones and any operational restrictions.
- Monitor airfield safety and compliance, encourage safe practices, and report incidents or breaches through the relevant Auckland Airport processes.
- Carry out biosecurity checks, compliance inspections, audits, and airside traffic control duties.
- Observe driving behaviour on the airfield and issue airside infringements when required for AIAL staff, contractors, or other operational personnel.
- Protect the health and safety of yourself and others while ensuring all stakeholders follow policies and standards.
What you need to succeed
You should bring a practical, hands-on approach and be comfortable working in a busy, high-pressure setting. The role suits someone who is service-oriented, motivated, and able to build positive working relationships with people from many different backgrounds.
To be successful, you will also need to be reliable, honest, and willing to complete an 8-10 week training period at the start of employment, including the trainee course and the necessary sign-offs.
Experience and qualifications
- At least 1-2 years of experience is preferred, or completion of relevant tertiary education in aviation.
- A full New Zealand driver licence is required so you can obtain a Stage 2 Airside Driving Permit, which the employer will assist you with.
- Prior aviation experience is considered a strong advantage.
- You should be able to attend the required training for 8-10 weeks at the beginning of the role.
Values and workplace culture
Auckland Airport values teamwork, knowledge-sharing, and action. The workplace is described as diverse and inclusive, welcoming people from all backgrounds and aiming to create an environment where everyone can thrive. The organisation sees itself as a custodian of a place that supports customers, the community, the environment, and the wider prosperity of Aotearoa.
Additional information
Assessment centre attendance is mandatory for applicants. The role also includes contractor-based rosters, which may change between day and night shifts and may include weekends. Overtime is available in addition to the standard 40-hour weekly schedule.
