About the role

Queensland Government Air, part of the Queensland Police Service Aviation Capability Group, is looking for experienced Aircrew Officers to join its rotary wing team in Townsville. This position supports aeromedical missions, search and rescue activity, emergency response, counter-disaster operations and other government assistance tasks. The role suits someone who can work effectively in the aircraft cabin as part of a close-knit crew while contributing to primary rescues, interhospital transfers and disaster response missions.

What the organisation offers

The position comes with a competitive annual salary of $114,894 to $125,338, plus 12.75% superannuation. Eligible rotary wing employees may also access salary sacrifice of up to $17,000 reportable fringe benefit amount. Additional allowances may be available, including an NVIS allowance of $3,686.45 per year and a Fitness Level 1 Crew Officer allowance of about $2,498 per year. Relocation support is available for suitable candidates moving to Townsville.

The team works across regular operations and emergency response situations throughout Queensland.

Key duties

• Support the pilot during aeromedical, search and rescue, emergency, counter-disaster and government support missions.
• Work as an effective crew member inside the aircraft during rescue and transfer operations.
• Contribute to primary rescue tasks, secondary interhospital transfers and other operational flying duties.
• Operate in support of frontline Queensland Government services during demanding and time-critical missions.

Mandatory requirements

• Completed Dangerous Goods Awareness Training.
• Completed Crew Resource Management or Human Factors Training.
• At least 100 logged hours of NVIS aircrew member experience.
• Current CASA Aviation Class 2 Medical Certificate.
• Winch Endorsement issued through an approved Training and Checking Organisation.
• AVI40225 Certificate IV in Airborne Operations, or an equivalent qualification, with the required electives completed for winching operations, non-pilot cockpit duties, NVIS operations, and helicopter landing site / unprepared landing site operations.
• Aeronautical Radio Operators Certificate, including Level 6 English Language Proficiency.

Highly desirable experience

• AW139 type endorsement with relevant operating experience on type.
• Previous IFR Aircrew Officer Front Left Hand Seat experience.
• Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET).
• Emergency Breathing Systems (EBS) training.
• SAR/EMS experience on the AW139.

Special conditions

• Applicants must pass the Aircrew Officer physical fitness test before appointment and then once every year after joining.
• The fitness test can be met by one of three options: a 400 metre swim in under 10 minutes, a 1.6 kilometre Rockport Fitness Walk Test with at least a “Good” result, or a 2.4 kilometre run with at least a “Good” result on the ExRx distance run calculator.
