About Central Land Council

The Central Land Council (CLC) is a corporate Commonwealth entity under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976. CLC represents traditional landowners, native title holders, and Aboriginal communities in the southern half of Northern Territory spanning nearly 780,000 square kilometres. The organisation supports its constituents through advice, advocacy, and practical assistance to manage land and protect rights.

Role Overview

This is a full-time, fixed-term 12-month contract position based in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, with remote work flexibility. The AI Specialist will be an expert in overseeing, integrating, and operationalizing artificial intelligence technologies within CLC. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer and operating inside the Portfolio Management Office (PMO), the role focuses on AI governance, risk management, and technical implementation.

The Specialist ensures that AI adoption aligns with stringent governance frameworks, protects culturally and legally sensitive information of Traditional Owners, and allows staff to use approved AI tools securely and productively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead AI governance and risk management initiatives to control and monitor AI use.
  • Manage technical integration and daily operational use of AI tools across the organisation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with data sensitivity and cultural considerations.

Qualifications and Mandatory Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications meeting essential criteria as outlined in the position description.
  • Ochre card (certification for working with vulnerable people).
  • National police clearance.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Applicants selected under affirmative action must provide eligibility evidence, such as statutory declaration or endorsement from an Aboriginal organisation.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting base salary from $115,873 per annum (negotiable based on experience under CLC EA guidelines).
  • Tax-free salary packaging up to $15,900 annually for living expenses plus $2,650 for meal entertainment benefits.
  • Superannuation at 15.4%.
  • District & Remote Allowance: about $3,910 or $7,170 annually depending on family status.
  • Five weeks paid annual leave with 17.5% leave loading.
  • Paid Christmas/New Year shutdown period.
  • 18 days personal/carer’s leave plus cultural leave entitlements.
  • Leave airfare allowance and relocation assistance for moving candidates.
  • Temporary subsidised accommodation up to four months if relocating.

Additional Information

The position is subject to affirmative action under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 prioritising Aboriginal applicants.
