Afterschool Childcare Assistant – Cherrywood & Leopardstown

Overview

Kids Inc. is hiring part-time Afterschool Childcare Assistants for its Cherrywood and Leopardstown services for the 2026/2027 school term. The role is designed for a term-time schedule and offers the chance to support children in a friendly, active afterschool setting.

The programme gives children a safe and supportive place to unwind after school, work through homework, and take part in a mix of enjoyable and development-focused activities. Kids Inc. has more than 25 years of experience in childcare and operates over 70 breakfast and afterschool programmes across Ireland, in addition to its creche and preschool services.

Work schedule and pay

This is a part-time, onsite position. The role starts on 26 August 2026 and runs for the 2026/2027 school term. A guaranteed minimum of 10 hours per week is provided, with extra hours often available, typically bringing the total to 20 to 25 hours weekly.

The current pay rate is €15.00 per hour, and this will rise to €15.75 per hour from 1 October 2026.

Placement will depend on the candidate's preference as well as operational needs.

Role overview

In this position, you will help create a warm, structured, and engaging environment where children feel comfortable after the school day. You will support their transition into the afternoon programme, encourage learning through play, and contribute to a positive group atmosphere.

Responsibilities

• Support children as they arrive from school and help them settle into the afterschool routine
• Provide calm, structured help with homework
• Take part in and lead a variety of activities such as sports, games, arts and crafts, imaginative play, and outdoor activities
• Encourage children’s social, emotional, physical, and creative growth
• Develop positive working relationships with children, families, and team members
• Assist with the daily operation of the service
• Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging setting for every child

Requirements

• Prior experience working with children is preferred
• A dependable, upbeat, and proactive approach
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Genuine interest in child development and working with children
• Ability to speak and write English fluently
• Full driving licence is an advantage, though not mandatory
• Willingness to complete Garda Vetting and reference verification

Additional information

Successful applicants must complete Garda Vetting and provide a valid Police Clearance Certificate where required, especially for anyone who has lived outside Ireland for more than six months since the age of 18.
