Afternoon Shift Operator - Sims Metal Recycling Facility

Role Summary

The position reports to the Yard Supervisor and is pivotal in ensuring safe and efficient operations of the recycling facility. This is a permanent role on an afternoon shift, typically from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with some flexibility required depending on operational demands. You will be hands-on operating various mobile plant machinery to process metals.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely unload trucks, trailers, and skip bins.
• Operate mobile machinery including forklifts, excavators, loaders, and material handlers to sort and process ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
• Assist in the receiving, processing, storage, and dispatch of recyclable materials.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety standards on-site through effective housekeeping.
• Adhere to all environmental, health, safety, and operational policies and promptly report hazards or unsafe conditions.
• Support general yard duties and help other operational areas as needed.
• Deliver excellent customer service and maintain positive interactions with drivers, customers, contractors, and visitors.

Candidate Profile

• Possession of a current forklift licence is preferred.
• Strong dedication to workplace health and safety protocols.
• Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
• Flexible and willing to assist across different operational functions.
• Positive mindset and effective team collaboration skills.
• Knowledge of metal sorting, grading, and recycling processes is advantageous.
• Experience operating heavy mobile plant and equipment is valuable.
