Job description

About the Role

This role sits within MacKillop’s National After-Hours Services Unit, where the focus is on delivering high-quality residential care to vulnerable young people and supporting their emotional, social, and behavioural needs.

The After Hours Support Worker helps create a secure, caring environment; encourages independent living skills; protects young people’s rights; and acts promptly when any concern arises. The role also supports young people to stay connected with important people and places in their lives, access information and experiences that strengthen identity, and take part in decisions that affect them.

The position requires culturally responsive practice, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families, and care that aligns with the organisation’s values, policies, and practice frameworks, including The Way We Work With Young People.

You will work alongside residential care staff, case workers, service providers, and families, and also take on roving duties across residential units within the designated regions. Record keeping is an important part of the role, including case notes, communication books, incident reports, and hazard and near-miss reports. You will also help with client participation and feedback processes, handle sensitive information confidentially, follow administrative and financial procedures, and engage in professional development, supervision, and performance reviews.
