Program Overview
#DegreesNYC is a collaborative movement led in partnership with youth, aiming to establish equitable education pathways in New York City. The movement focuses on reimagining education and fostering schools that are ready to support students effectively.
Advocacy Fellows engage actively in this movement by joining advocacy campaigns, facilitating workshops, and organizing events geared toward promoting #DegreesNYC’s policy goals.
Role and Responsibilities
As part of the Youth Council, Advocacy Fellows contribute through their lived experiences to inform and advocate for reforms that ensure a just, equitable, and student-centric education system. They amplify youth perspectives, encourage civic involvement, and nurture leadership among young people.
Working under the Youth Council Co-Coordinator for Advocacy, Fellows take lead roles in advocacy initiatives aligned with #DegreesNYC priorities. They employ storytelling techniques such as testimonies, panel discussions, and opinion pieces to elevate voices of youth and drive tangible policy changes. Direct interaction with policymakers and institutional leaders forms a critical part of their advocacy efforts to promote comprehensive support structures within schools and campuses.
Fellows also collaborate with youth-led and youth-centered organizations to forge partnerships that strengthen educational justice advocacy. Close cooperation with Data Fellows ensures their advocacy is informed by data insights, while engagement with the Data Co-Op and Learning Network broadens their involvement with public data systems in NYC and the state.
Position Summary
The Advocacy Fellows serve as the foundation for integrating youth voices into advocacy and policymaking work. They play pivotal roles in sharing their own and their peers’ narratives through various mediums, influencing public discourse and policy directions to advance educational equity.
The role empowers fellows to identify key issues impacting youth education and actively advocate for systemic changes by engaging directly with decision-makers.

- Schedule: December 2025 to June 2026, with a commitment of up to 10 hours per week
- Compensation: $17 per hour
