Adult Military and Family Life Counselor - Qatar

Role Overview

This opportunity is for a licensed behavioral health professional to join the Adult Military and Family Life Counseling team supporting Qatar in the Middle East. The role is designed to provide non-medical counseling support to U.S. military service members, spouses, family members, and eligible staff as they navigate the stresses and adjustments associated with military life.

The position starts out remote until travel to the Middle East becomes possible. Candidates must be able to work overnight shifts to be considered.

The work is preventive and solution-focused, aiming to help people address concerns early before they grow into larger problems. Support is delivered through counseling, consultation, outreach, and coaching in military community settings.

About the Work Environment

This role may involve service in high-pressure military environments, including situations connected to special operations communities. Supporting SOCOM-related populations can require additional clearances because of the sensitive nature of the work and the operational demands faced by service members and their families.

Duties are performed in a mix of indoor and outdoor settings. Indoor work is typically carried out in child development centers or other controlled spaces, while outdoor work may include walking across uneven ground, climbing stairs, exposure to weather, and moving between locations on and off base.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide in-person counseling to service members and their families, including individuals, couples, and family groups.
• Observe, participate in, and support activities with service members, spouses, and families while also coaching installation staff on behavior-management approaches.
• Deliver presentations at military community events and to military leadership.
• Use approved materials to encourage positive engagement, creativity, and resilience.
• Develop trust with families by taking part in installation and community activities.
• Assist with transitions such as adjusting to a new school or home.
• Take part in required training sessions and other contract-related activities.
• Share trends, recurring issues, and installation-level observations with team leads.
• Respond to urgent situations wherever they occur on a military installation.
• Move across long distances and through rugged, uneven, indoor, and outdoor environments as needed.
• Travel to locations outside the military base when required.
• Follow site-specific rules and access requirements for designated work locations.

Requirements

• A master’s degree or higher in a behavioral health field such as MS, MSW, MA, or PhD.
• A current independent mental health license from a U.S. state or territory, such as LCSW, MHC, MFT, LPC, or Psychologist.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Ability to pass a basic employment background check, including NACI/CNACI clearance and Public Trust requirements.
• Willingness to work overnight shifts.
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor conditions, including uneven terrain and weather exposure.

Licensure and Portability

Under the National Defense Authorization Act, licensed Military and Family Life Counselors may provide non-medical counseling services to military families anywhere in a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory or possession, regardless of the state in which they are licensed. Within the MFLC program, any independent clinical license recognized by the Secretary of Defense may be accepted for non-medical counseling services.

Pay and Other Information

The listed pay range for this role is $59,150 to $106,925 annually. This range is provided as a general guideline and is not a guaranteed offer amount. Final compensation may depend on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, bargaining agreements if applicable, and other legal factors.
