Role Overview

The Adult Intensivist is an essential contributor to the Specialty Medicine Department, responsible for delivering expert clinical care and consultations to critically ill patients with cardiac-related medical or surgical conditions. The role includes additional duties aligned with the individual's qualifications to support organizational requirements, reporting directly to the Chief of the Division of Specialty Medicine.

Educational and Certification Criteria

  • Graduation from a recognized medical school is mandatory.
  • Completion of a one-year internship in a certified training program.
  • Residency training in Internal Medicine, Anesthesia, or Emergency Medicine from a recognized program.
  • Fellowship training specialized in cardiac critical care medicine.
  • For applicants from the UK system: minimum of two years in registrar roles focusing on cardiac critical medicine following qualifications, plus at least one year as an intensive care unit registrar.
  • Possession of a valid medical license.
  • Board certification equivalent to the American or Canadian standards.

Experience Requirements

A minimum of three years practicing post-board or post-fellowship in cardiac critical care medicine, demonstrating verified expertise in the specialty.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized patient-centered care and medical consultations for inpatients and outpatients within the scope of cardiac critical care.
  • Execute diagnostic and therapeutic procedures adhering to premium standards and privileged activities authorized by the Division Chief and the Credentialing Committee.
  • Ensure all medical documentation and reports are completed accurately and punctually.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, allied health professionals, and administrators, fostering cooperative interdepartmental relationships across the healthcare system.
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary teams, promoting teamwork and shared responsibilities.
  • Engage in on-call duties based on operational demands and respond promptly to emergency requests from emergency departments across all facilities.
  • Attend and contribute to unit, division, departmental, and hospital meetings focused on staff, clinical practice, education, and research on a monthly basis.
  • Support educational initiatives by attending Grand Rounds and Journal Clubs and aiding in the professional growth of trainees and healthcare staff.
  • Take part in interdisciplinary quality improvement projects and committee activities within the healthcare organization.
  • Respond promptly to all medical documentation, coding, patient concerns, or risk management inquiries from the organization.
