About the Role
Mercor, a San Francisco-based firm dedicated to connecting top-tier creative and technical experts with leading artificial intelligence research laboratories, is seeking a Child & Adolescent Mental Health Clinical Advisor for the AI Safety Benchmark Project. This contract position involves part-time remote work, with compensation ranging from $80 to $150 per hour for approximately 10 to 15 hours weekly.
Key Responsibilities
- Create fictional adolescent mental health case scenarios grounded in clinical experience.
- Evaluate scenarios to ensure clinical accuracy, developmental suitability, and ethical soundness.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of clinician-informed evaluation frameworks for assessing AI chatbot performance.
- Assess subsets of AI-generated conversations, offering expert judgment to fine-tune automated evaluation tools.
- Provide guidance on best practices for evaluating AI behaviors in critical mental health areas including suicide and self-harm prevention, medical and therapeutic impersonation, as well as parasocial attachment and anthropomorphism.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of an MD, DO, PhD, PsyD, or comparable credential in Psychiatry, Psychology, or a related mental health discipline.
- Demonstrated clinical or research specialization in child and adolescent mental health.
- Expert profile in suicide prevention, self-harm evaluation, clinical child psychology, adolescent psychiatry, digital mental health, or recognized evidence-based therapies such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to provide detailed clinical feedback in a structured format.
- Comfort in analyzing fictional clinical scenarios and critically reviewing AI-generated dialogues.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in suicide risk evaluation or crisis intervention.
- Academic publication or research experience related to adolescent mental health, suicide prevention, or digital therapeutic methodologies.
- Participation in the development of clinical protocols, evaluation frameworks, or educational resources.
- Experience working with artificial intelligence, digital health technologies, or mental health product assessments.
- Supervisory experience with trainees or multidisciplinary clinical teams.
