Role overview
Universal Music Group is hiring a Paralegal Administrative Assistant for its Santa Monica office. This position supports litigation attorneys within the Business and Legal Affairs department and combines paralegal work with day-to-day administrative coordination.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with protecting UMG content by helping investigate infringement matters, gathering evidence, confirming rights, and coordinating with counsel on claims.
- Research claims brought by or against UMG business units.
- Support responses to discovery demands, subpoenas, liens, and levies.
- Contribute to a quarterly legal matters report by coordinating updates with attorneys, internal teams, and outside agencies.
- Review contracts and prepare concise summaries.
- Draft and update agreements, charts, memoranda, letters, and related documents.
- Handle administrative tasks such as correspondence, expense reporting, and travel coordination.
- Take on additional duties as needed by supervisors.
Required skills and abilities
The right candidate should bring strong communication skills, a careful eye for detail, sound professional judgment, and the ability to complete assigned work without close supervision. This role also calls for initiative, ownership, strong organization, and the ability to juggle priorities in a fast-paced environment while working both independently and as part of a team. Solid typing ability and comfort with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are essential.
Experience and education
Previous paralegal experience is preferred, especially experience involving claims preparation or contract review/analysis. Advanced computer skills are important, including Microsoft Word features such as tables and redlining, along with Excel. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
