Job description

Company Overview

Summerset is focused on creating vibrant retirement villages where residents can truly feel at home. From the earliest development stages through to everyday village life, the organisation relies on its people’s commitment, energy and care to make each community thrive.

Role Summary

An energetic and imaginative Activities Coordinator is needed for the Aotea village in Porirua, Wellington. The role suits someone who enjoys bringing people together, planning engaging experiences and making a real difference to older adults’ daily lives. Experience in events, hospitality or aged care would be helpful, but a genuine interest in people matters most.

What the Role Involves

This position offers a mix of creativity, organisation and resident engagement. You will plan and deliver themed events, entertainment, celebrations, outings and other memorable experiences that residents can enjoy and look forward to. The job also involves building warm relationships with residents, supporting their wellbeing, and helping them stay connected, active and involved in village life.

Alongside the social side of the role, you will also handle administrative and organisational tasks to keep activities running smoothly. Being efficient with paperwork and planning will allow you to spend more time interacting with residents and leading activities that have a positive impact.

Schedule and Employment Details

This is a permanent full-time role based on a 40-hour week, working Monday to Friday, with occasional events outside the usual schedule.

What You Need

The ideal candidate will bring a positive, can-do approach and be comfortable working closely with both staff and residents. Strong communication, organisation and computer skills are important, along with a sincere respect for ageing and an interest in supporting older people.

Qualifications and Experience

Prior experience in events, hospitality or aged care would be an advantage. Candidates should either hold or be willing to train for an LCQ qualification, and must have a current driver licence, an Alcohol Managers Certificate, and a valid first aid certificate. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher is also required.

Additional Information

Summerset promotes diversity and welcomes applicants from many different backgrounds, including people bringing transferable skills from other industries. The organisation values the whole person and encourages applicants who may not meet every requirement but can contribute in meaningful ways.

Benefits

Employees can access a range of benefits, including Southern Cross Health Essentials Insurance, a full uniform, birthday leave and discounts from a variety of suppliers.

Application Deadline

Applications close on 18/07/2026. The vacancy may be filled earlier if there is a high volume of applications, so early submission is encouraged.
