About Chesapeake Treatment Center

Chesapeake Treatment Center is a residential facility in Parkville, MD, offering 29 beds for adolescent and young adult males. Our center focuses on helping youth replace unhealthy thought patterns and poor choices with positive, pro-social actions. The center provides specialized care to individuals dealing with complex challenges including mental health issues, trauma, substance abuse, and behavioral problems, including sexualized and gang-related behavior. Our programs hold accreditation from the Joint Commission (JCAHO).

Role Overview

The Music and Arts Activities Coordinator applies creative arts — such as music, dance, visual arts, drama, and writing — as therapeutic tools to support clients in expressing emotions and fostering personal healing and development. This role emphasizes creating a secure environment for youth to safely explore and process their feelings through various artistic forms.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Department of Juvenile Justice to coordinate client care and activities.
• Work closely with unit staff to support treatment goals.
• Provide immediate crisis intervention when necessary.
• Understand and sensitively serve a culturally diverse and/or special needs client base.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree is required.
• A master's degree is preferred.
• Experience working with emotionally disturbed adolescents or young adults is advantageous.
• Ability to work two weekend days per month is expected.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.
