Job description
Job Overview
The Accounts Receivable Clerk supports the Office Manager by overseeing customer charge accounts and keeping collections aligned with company procedures. The role calls for strong communication skills and the ability to address A/R concerns quickly and effectively.
Key Duties
- Apply customer payments in line with internal policy.
- Track accounts for unpaid balances, missing invoices, and partial payments using the branch collection approach.
- Keep management updated on the progress of account collection activity.
- Set up and maintain a recovery process and begin collection follow-ups as needed.
- Handle monthly and quarterly closing statement tasks and prepare related reports.
- Reach out to customers by phone, email, mail, or in person to arrange payment on overdue accounts.
- Review credit references for all applications and share the results with management.
- Respond to customer questions and resolve issues promptly.
- Forward accounts to management for possible bad debt write-off.
- Send invoices to customers by fax or email for payment processing.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- This position may also involve support with other general office tasks.
Qualifications
- Strong command of MS Office, particularly Excel for preparing aging and overdue account summaries.
- Clear written and spoken English communication, with strong telephone manner.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Strong organization and multitasking abilities, with close attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively pursue collection work.
- Sound understanding of basic business operations and accurate data entry skills.
Education
Some business training or similar experience is required.
Physical Requirements
The role involves standing, walking, sitting, talking on the phone, occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs., stooping, typing, fine motor work, hearing, and speaking.
Work Environment
Work is carried out indoors in offices and meeting rooms within a typical industrial laundry, service center, or depot setting.
Travel
No travel is required.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range is $23.00 to $25.00. The employer also provides health and dental insurance.
