Job description
Role Overview
The Accounts Officer position based in Accra is responsible for managing and ensuring timely invoicing of all Cocoa Taken Over Receipts (CTORs) to Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC), managing bank reconciliations, withholding tax processes, vendor payments, supporting audits and month-end closing activities. This role serves the Nyonkopa Cocoa Buying Company Ltd and reports to the GL Accountant for Ghana.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily handling and receipt of CTORs from the port and preparation of manual sales invoices to CMC.
- Continuous follow-up with CMC for invoice confirmations and maintenance of the Cocobod invoice monitor.
- Weekly reconciliation of port returns and monthly reconciliation of port updates.
- Issuing CTOR invoices through the BBS system, submitting approved invoices daily, and reconciling payments to close sales in BBS.
- Converting sales data from BBS into purchase records for posting into SAP, managing employee vendor accounts, posting retirements, clearing accounts, and performing employee ageing analysis.
- Updating invoice trackers with payment requests, including SSNIT, pension fund, and employee transactions.
- Managing petty cash for the Accra office daily, performing bi-weekly bank reconciliations, and handling Cocobod cheque deposits as needed.
- Preparing monthly withholding tax schedules.
- Conducting month-end activities such as reconciliations, port reporting, accrual entries, balance sheet reviews, and clearing employee vendor accounts.
- Participating in all financial and tax audits.
- Handling document collection and dispatch to Kumasi, and maintaining all filing and copying of records.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a Bachelor of Science in Administration (Accounting option), Bachelor of Commerce, ICAI, or ACCA certification with at least two years of relevant accounting experience.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with SAP and BBS systems is advantageous.
- Strong foundation in accounting principles and tax regulations.
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to perform efficiently under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to support colleagues during their absences and travel outside the job location when required.
