Distinct Engineering Solutions, Inc., located in North Brunswick, NJ, is an engineering consulting firm providing geotechnical, environmental, construction inspection, and site-civil engineering services. We are seeking a precise and proactive Accountant / Bookkeeper to manage the entire accounting process across several entities, ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and insightful reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle complete bookkeeping cycles using QuickBooks Online for 2 to 4 US-based entities.
- Manage monthly closing activities including reconciliation of bank accounts, credit cards, and loans, along with accruals, accounts receivable/payable aging, work-in-progress (WIP), and revenue cutoff.
- Prepare financial statements monthly, quarterly, and consolidated, accompanied by analysis of variances for management review.
- Support federal and multi-state tax compliance including forms 1120, 1120-S, 1065, sales and use tax, payroll tax, franchise and annual reports, 1099 preparation, and estimated tax payments.
- Respond to and resolve notices from state tax authorities and the IRS.
- Collaborate with external CPAs, auditors, banks, lenders, and factoring partners as part of the accounting process.
- Oversee payroll reconciliations, forecast cash flow, assist with budgeting, and prepare reporting packages for lenders and banks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related discipline.
- Experience ranging from none to 2 years in accounting or bookkeeping, including internships or involvement in public accounting.
- Certification or candidacy for CA, CPA, CA Intermediate is advantageous; recent graduates eager for practical exposure welcome.
- Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, particularly multi-entity setups and class/location tracking, is preferred; a willingness to learn is essential.
- Knowledge of US GAAP and federal/multi-state tax regulations is required; experience with US-India cross-border structures is beneficial.
- Proficiency with advanced Excel functionalities like pivot tables, lookups, and reconciliation models, alongside Google Sheets proficiency.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with CPAs, lenders, and vendors.
- Self-motivated individual capable of meeting deadlines independently within a dynamic, entrepreneurial work environment.
