Position Summary
The Quality Assurance Coordinator (QAC) - Nurse is an experienced nursing professional dedicated to leading quality improvement efforts within clinical departments. The role involves assessing patient records, clinical documentation, and patient outcomes to ensure adherence to regulatory and organizational standards while promoting continuous quality enhancement. The position also oversees compliance with the CMS Promoting Interoperability Program, ensuring timely reporting and corrective actions as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage hospital and clinical department quality improvement projects, including programs such as Hospital Inpatient and Outpatient Quality Reporting, Readmissions Reduction, Value-Based Purchasing, Quality Improvement Organization, and Quality Payment Program.
- Analyze clinical data and safety reports to identify trends and opportunities for better patient care.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures aimed at improving care quality and patient safety.
- Conduct root cause analyses on adverse, sentinel, or near-miss events.
- Train staff on quality standards, compliance, and documentation best practices to elevate care quality.
- Collaborate with clinical teams and external agencies to meet accreditation and regulatory requirements like the Joint Commission and CMS.
- Monitor quality performance metrics and compile reports for leadership review.
- Stay informed about advances in health quality improvement and regulatory updates.
- Participate in data collection, auditing, and documentation for quality assurance activities.
- Support corporate accreditation and licensing efforts.
- Engage in special projects such as team-building events, cultural initiatives, and safety programs.
- Conduct daily reviews of safety incidents and contribute to safety calls, including weekends and holidays.
- Perform general administrative tasks including scheduling, meeting facilitation, and office management.
- Research emerging healthcare practices not yet incorporated into policies or procedures.
- Fulfill other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- At least five years of progressive experience within a hospital environment, preferably including medical record review, quality assurance, or compliance.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license preferred, although equivalent experience will be considered.
- Required certifications include Angyaq Quality Systems basic training within six months of hire and Healthcare Accreditation Certified Professional (HACP) certification within two years.
- Proficiency with computers and standard software platforms such as Excel and Zoom.
- Strong communication, document editing, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Familiarity with healthcare compliance regulations, accreditation bodies, and clinical data interpretation.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and supervise documentation owners indirectly.

The position is based in Bethel, Alaska, within the Performance Improvement Department. The full-time role entails a 40-hour workweek and offers a starting hourly wage of $42.92. The role is exempt under FLSA standards and includes indirect supervisory responsibilities related to document compliance.
