Role Overview

The QA Automation Engineer at SWTCH will play a crucial role in advancing the quality of their EV charging software platform by building and implementing a robust end-to-end automated testing framework from the ground up. This position involves close collaboration with Product and Engineering teams to ensure stable, scalable deliveries without regression.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product Managers to translate functional use cases into comprehensive testable scenarios and edge cases.
• Define and own the test strategy and standards for automated end-to-end and user-flow testing.
• Design, develop, and execute automated functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Build and integrate automated tests into continuous integration and deployment pipelines.
• Provide mentorship to engineers on writing and maintaining automated test suites, fostering organization-wide testing proficiency.
• Conduct manual and exploratory testing for areas not yet automated.
• Identify and track defects rigorously, driving resolutions with engineering partners.
• Analyze test failures and continuously improve test coverage and reliability.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in Software Quality Assurance with at least 3 years specialized in automation testing.
• Hands-on experience testing web applications, APIs, mobile apps, and backend systems.
• Proven record of establishing automated testing frameworks from inception.
• Comfortable working with Product Managers to uncover testing requirements and edge cases.
• Proficiency with automation tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or equivalents.
• Experience with REST API testing tools like Postman.
• Programming skills in Python and/or TypeScript; Ruby knowledge is advantageous due to Ruby on Rails backend services.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD workflows, and Agile development methodologies.
• Strong communication skills coupled with analytic and troubleshooting aptitude.
• Experience mentoring peers in improving testing competencies.

Preferred but Not Required

• Background with IoT, connected devices, or hardware interface software.
• Knowledge of EV charging protocols such as OCPP.
• Experience using cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Skills in performance or load testing.

Technology Stack

The primary technologies include Python and TypeScript, React for the frontend, and some backend services built with Ruby on Rails. The team's current preference leans toward using Playwright as the automation tool, though alternative tools with strong justification are welcomed.
