About the Role
Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP Grendon and Springhill. This highly varied role involves supporting the everyday operations of a busy prison. Responsibilities range from security and gate searches to managing deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring communications via phone and CCTV. The position combines desk tasks with physical duties including lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles within the prison grounds.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the smooth and secure running of the prison.
- Conduct security checks and searches at entry points.
- Manage deliveries and supervise visitor access.
- Monitor phone calls and oversee CCTV operations.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across prison grounds.
- Work varied shifts including weekends and nights to ensure continuous operational support.
- Perform driving duties, requiring a full, valid UK driving licence.

There are no formal qualifications required for this post. Ideal candidates will be effective communicators who remain calm under pressure. Good judgement, common sense, and a collaborative team spirit are essential to succeed. - Starting salary: £29,432.
- Annual leave of 25 days upon appointment, increasing to 30 days after 10 years’ service (pro-rated).
