Role overview

His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service is hiring an Operational Support Grade at HMP Guys Marsh. This is a varied, hands-on role that helps keep a busy prison operating safely and efficiently.

The position combines desk-based duties with more active work, such as lifting, carrying, and walking across prison grounds to escort vehicles. It suits someone who enjoys a fast-moving environment and wants to build a career in the prison system.

What you’ll do

You will support the daily running of the prison through tasks such as gate security checks, searching, handling deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring phone activity and CCTV.

The role is part of a team effort to maintain order, safety, and smooth operations across the site.

No formal qualifications are required. The ideal candidate should communicate well, stay composed under pressure, use sound judgement, and bring common sense to the job. Being a reliable team player is essential.

You should also be comfortable working a mix of shifts, including nights and weekends.

Pay and benefits

The salary for this post is £29,432.
