Role Overview
The Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) serves nearly every Colorado citizen by providing essential identification, licensing, and vehicle services through State and County offices. This role invites candidates with strong organizational, communication, and collaborative abilities to join the DRIVES Training team. As a Training Specialist, you will deliver training to over 2,000 stakeholders statewide, including State and County personnel. You'll manage training schedules, conduct assessments, respond to stakeholder queries, and support certification processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive technical training sessions (virtual and occasional in-person) for DRIVES system users in various state offices and agencies statewide.
- Administer new hire and refresher training programs, conduct audits to confirm learner competency, and oversee written and practical assessments.
- Obtain BOST certification to authorize County Driver License staff to conduct skills testing.
- Design, develop, and revise training materials and courses to reflect policy and statutory changes, managing logistics such as equipment, registration, and evaluations.
- Provide responsive technical support and assistance to DRIVES users through telephone and email communications in a call center environment.
- Travel overnight and extended durations statewide to various Driver License and Motor Vehicle offices; occasional on-site work with access to a State vehicle.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Experience: Seven years of full-time professional experience developing and/or delivering business systems training to adult learners in classroom or virtual settings.
Or Education + Experience: A combination of relevant education in business, training, higher education, technology, or related fields and professional experience totaling seven years in training adult learners on business systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in technical customer service within state government.
- Familiarity with DRIVES and experience working at county or State offices.
- Experience in help desk or call center environments.
- Additional public service experience at federal, state, county, or local levels.
- Instructional Design expertise and experience using audiovisual tools.
- Proficiency with PowerPoint and Articulate Storyline at intermediate or advanced levels.
- Competency in creating web-based training modules and writing storyboards/scripts.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience facilitating virtual training classes.

- Completion of Colorado Individual Income Tax returns and pre-employment tax record evaluation is mandatory.
- Successful background check and references are required before appointment.
- Driving a State-owned vehicle requires maintaining a valid driver’s license and safe driving record; Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed accordingly.
