Role overview

Vestas is hiring a Service Technician to support the upkeep and reliability of wind turbines in regional Australia. This role suits someone with an interest and background in electricity, mechanics, and hydraulics who wants to contribute to renewable energy generation and build technical capability through structured training.

The position sits within the service team, whose purpose is to deliver high-quality maintenance and operational support for wind farms across Australia. Safety is a central part of the work culture and is embedded into everyday processes.

Work location and schedule

This role is based across regional Australia and is not a fly-in-fly-out arrangement; you must be located in the region. Possible locations include:

  • Western Australia: Merredin, Jurian Bay, Geraldton
  • South Australia: Port Augusta/Whyalla, Millicent/Mt Gambier
  • Victoria: Warnambool, Ballarat, Sale
  • New South Wales: Canberra/Goulburn, Inverall/Glen Innes
  • Queensland: Hughenden, Chinchilla/Dulacca, Atherton
  • Tasmania: Musselroe, Granville Harbour

Standard working time is 8 hours per day, with weekend on-call duty roughly once every 3 to 4 weeks. The job also involves about 50 travel days per year.

Key duties

In this role, you will help keep turbines operating safely, efficiently, and in line with service targets. You will perform scheduled inspections, replace and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic parts, and support smooth operation through condition monitoring and remote-control systems. You will also help keep the service vehicle and warehouse supplied by ordering tools, materials, and spare parts when needed, and you may assemble and service components using internal or external cranes where required.

Skills and experience

The ideal candidate has a trade background in electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic work and is keen to continue developing in these areas. Strong computer literacy is important, including the ability to use tools and systems for work tracking and documentation. Good written and spoken English, along with a valid driver's licence, are required.

You should also have a strong commitment to health and safety, be comfortable climbing wind turbines and carrying out physically demanding work at height and in changing weather conditions, and be willing to travel to other sites when needed. The role also calls for teamwork, clear communication with different stakeholders, independent problem-solving, and good organisation.
