Role Overview

Within LIC's Operations & Service Group, the Senior Laboratory Technician will join the Semen Processing Laboratory team at Awahuri, working under the Lab Manager. This pivotal role involves hands-on laboratory tasks focused on high-quality semen production consistent with rigorous international export standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and conduct training and competency assessments for laboratory personnel, keeping detailed training documentation.
• Implement laboratory quality control measures to maintain product excellence.
• Perform maintenance, calibration, and servicing of lab equipment to ensure reliability.
• Handle procurement activities aligned with organizational policies and budget constraints.
• Drive technical enhancements and adjustments in operational workflows.
• Assist in updating and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure adherence to OAP Operational Codes, EU & GBR OMARs, and WOAH regulations.
• Manage accurate and prompt preparation of semen dispatch paperwork.
• Advocate for safe workplace practices and support compliance with health and safety requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

• Tertiary qualification such as a Bachelor of Science or equivalent.
• Prior experience in laboratory settings.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of laboratory operations and quality assurance systems.
• Audit experience is advantageous.
• Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Experience in training and supporting team members.
• Proficient in computer applications including databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and SAP software.
• High attention to detail and dedication to quality standards.
