Role Overview
Within LIC's Operations & Service Group, the Senior Laboratory Technician will join the Semen Processing Laboratory team at Awahuri, working under the Lab Manager. This pivotal role involves hands-on laboratory tasks focused on high-quality semen production consistent with rigorous international export standards.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and conduct training and competency assessments for laboratory personnel, keeping detailed training documentation.
- Implement laboratory quality control measures to maintain product excellence.
- Perform maintenance, calibration, and servicing of lab equipment to ensure reliability.
- Handle procurement activities aligned with organizational policies and budget constraints.
- Drive technical enhancements and adjustments in operational workflows.
- Assist in updating and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure adherence to OAP Operational Codes, EU & GBR OMARs, and WOAH regulations.
- Manage accurate and prompt preparation of semen dispatch paperwork.
- Advocate for safe workplace practices and support compliance with health and safety requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
- Tertiary qualification such as a Bachelor of Science or equivalent.
- Prior experience in laboratory settings.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of laboratory operations and quality assurance systems.
- Audit experience is advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and problem resolution.
- Experience in training and supporting team members.
- Proficient in computer applications including databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and SAP software.
- High attention to detail and dedication to quality standards.
