About the Role
Join HMP Bullingdon as a Prison Support Officer, playing an essential role in ensuring the smooth daily operations of a busy prison environment. This role is part of His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service and offers a rewarding and active working experience.
Your duties will include a range of tasks from conducting security checks and searches at the gate, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, to monitoring phone calls and CCTV. The position combines office-based responsibilities with physical activity such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles around the prison grounds.
Location and Transport
The prison is in a rural area with limited public transportation. While having a full UK driving licence with category D1 (enabling you to drive vehicles with up to 16 passenger seats and trailers up to 750kg) and your own transport is advantageous, it is not mandatory unless otherwise specified. Shift times are fixed, so punctuality is essential and you are responsible for your commute.
Candidate Profile
You don't need formal qualifications to apply. Strong communication skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, sound judgement, and teamwork are fundamental. The role requires working varied shifts, including nights and weekends.
Role Impact and Career Development
This is a meaningful career where you help protect the public and contribute to positive outcomes for the prison and its operations. Although interaction with inmates is limited compared to prison officers, you will gain valuable insights into prison operations with possibilities to advance into other roles, including the OSG to Prison Officer conversion program.
