Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Optometrist Trainer to mentor, train, and enhance the capabilities of optometrists, optical staff, and retail team members. This role focuses on imparting technical, clinical, and customer service knowledge to ensure consistent quality eye care practices across multiple locations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct training sessions including classroom instruction, virtual learning, and hands-on on-the-job training.
- Educate new employees on fundamental optometry principles and clinical procedures.
- Develop refresher courses for current staff to maintain high standards.
- Demonstrate practical skills such as refraction techniques, slit lamp examinations, contact lens fittings, and vision screenings.
- Provide training on diagnostic equipment and optical instruments used in clinical practice.
- Ensure adherence to clinical standard operating procedures and quality benchmarks.
- Supervise and verify the accuracy of eye examination and refraction activities.
- Guide teams on patient counseling and optimal eye care practices.
- Keep abreast of the latest advancements in optometry and integrate relevant updates into training programs.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate trainee competence and identify areas for improvement.
- Manage training documentation, attendance records, and certification tracking.
- Create continuous coaching and mentoring initiatives for skill enhancement.
- Develop and revise training materials including manuals, presentations, videos, and SOPs aligned with newest clinical guidelines and products.
- Assist with Learning Management System implementations and maintenance.
- Train retail staff in eyewear dispensing, product expertise, and customer service communication.
- Support retail store openings and periodic quality assessments to improve customer experience.
Qualifications and Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Optometry (B.Optom/B.Opt) with valid registration from the relevant Optometry Council.
- 3 to 6 years of clinical or retail optometry experience.
- Prior experience in training or teaching is preferable.
- Proficient in refraction and eye examination techniques.
- Practical knowledge of slit lamps, retinoscopy, tonometry, and other diagnostic devices.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
- Capability in training and coaching methodologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Aptitude for problem-solving and analytical thinking.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Learning Management Systems.
- Readiness to travel to various branch locations as required.
Preferred Experience
- Background in retail optical chains or eye hospitals.
- Experience in designing training curriculum and content.
- Certification in Learning and Development is advantageous.
