About the role
Join a long-established African banking group with more than a century of history and regional as well as international reach. This opportunity sits within Business Banking and focuses on growing trade finance and working capital business while helping shape client outcomes, profitability, and risk control.
The position is centered on designing and delivering tailored liquidity and trade solutions for business customers, strengthening relationships, and ensuring all activity aligns with internal credit standards and regulatory expectations.
What you will do
- Build and implement plans to expand the trade finance and working capital book.
- Win new business from clients that need trade and liquidity support, and deepen relationships with existing Business Banking customers through cross-selling.
- Partner with Relationship Managers to create well-structured client solutions.
- Keep track of market shifts and competitor products to improve how offerings are positioned.
- Design trade finance structures such as letters of credit, bank guarantees, bills for collection, invoice discounting/factoring, supply chain finance, overdrafts, and related working capital solutions.
- Guide clients on trade finance practices, risk reduction, and ways to improve cash flow.
- Adapt working capital facilities to match each client’s business cycle and operating needs.
- Manage the existing portfolio by monitoring utilization, profitability, turnover, and emerging risk.
- Spot early warning indicators in underperforming accounts and take corrective action where needed.
- Set and maintain appropriate pricing to support risk-adjusted returns.
- Prepare and assess credit proposals for trade and working capital facilities.
- Review financial information to judge creditworthiness and portfolio quality.
- Ensure compliance with internal credit rules and regulatory requirements.
- Reduce operational and transaction risk linked to trade finance instruments.
- Work closely with Credit Risk teams to protect portfolio quality.
- Maintain strong relationships with key business clients and relevant stakeholders.
- Serve as the internal subject-matter specialist for trade finance matters.
- Support clients on an ongoing basis to improve working capital efficiency and resolve transaction queries.
- Coordinate with operations teams to ensure trade transactions are executed smoothly.
- Monitor turnaround times, service levels, and process efficiency.
- Ensure full adherence to AML/KYC requirements and other regulatory guidelines.
- Remove process bottlenecks and help improve service delivery.
- Collaborate with Relationship Managers, Credit Risk, Operations/Trade Processing, Treasury, and product teams to enhance offerings and execution.
- Prepare performance and portfolio reports covering revenue, utilization, growth, and key service metrics.
- Track KPIs such as turnaround time, deal conversion, and client acquisition, and share insights with management.
What we are looking for
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
- Strong knowledge of trade finance and working capital products and structures.
- Ability to analyze financial statements and assess credit risk.
- Understanding of AML/KYC controls, regulatory compliance, and internal credit policies.
- Experience handling client relationships in a business banking or corporate banking environment.
- Sound commercial judgment with the ability to balance growth, risk, and profitability.
- Capability to coordinate with multiple internal stakeholders and manage operational follow-through.
- Strong reporting, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
