About Rocket Lab
Rocket Lab is a fully integrated space company that delivers responsive launch services, spacecraft design and manufacturing, payloads, satellite components, and related solutions, all aimed at expanding access to space. Its rockets and satellites support major missions around the world, including scientific research, Earth observation, climate-focused initiatives, national security, and technology demonstrations.
Electron has grown into one of the most frequently launched U.S. rockets each year and has already placed more than 230 satellites into orbit. At the same time, the company is developing Neutron, a reusable medium-lift launch vehicle designed for larger constellation deployments. Rocket Lab’s Space Systems division designs and manufactures a broad portfolio of satellites, payloads, and components, including hardware selected for NASA lunar and Martian missions and parts used on the James Webb Space Telescope.
Role Overview
Rocket Lab is hiring a Manager for Test and Launch Operations to lead front-line engineering teams responsible for critical test and launch activities for Electron and Neutron. This position is central to sustaining the company’s high launch tempo and ensuring complex missions are executed smoothly and reliably.
The role calls for a seasoned leader who can build strong teams, create effective operational systems, and keep performance high in environments where timing, precision, and safety are all essential. You will work in a fast-moving, high-pressure setting while balancing strict compliance requirements with the flexibility needed to stay competitive.
What You'll Do
In this position, you will guide engineering teams through mission-critical test and launch operations, support operational planning, and help shape the frameworks that keep work efficient and dependable. You will also contribute to continuous improvement, navigate regulatory obligations, and help maintain the pace required for Rocket Lab’s launch operations.
Qualifications and Experience
To succeed in this role, you should bring a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification. You should also have at least 8 years of practical aerospace engineering, testing, or operations experience, along with 3 or more years of experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments.
The role requires hands-on capability across multiple technical areas, including fluid mechanics, electrical and power systems, automation, instrumentation and control, and software integration. You should also have experience with propulsion systems, test engineering, and ground test operations, plus a solid understanding of launch vehicle and spacecraft systems, including exposure to mission operations.
Strong judgment is important, especially when decisions must be made quickly and anomalies must be resolved under pressure. A proven history of coaching, motivating, and developing engineering talent in demanding operational settings is also essential.
Nice to Have
It would be an advantage to have real-world launch operations experience, prior work at launch vehicle test or launch facilities, and familiarity with FAA, RCC, NASA, and USAF compliance requirements.
Work Style and Environment
This is not a standard nine-to-five role. The work demands commitment, resilience, and a strong appetite for challenges. Success here requires people who can handle pressure, deliver at speed, and contribute meaningfully to space exploration, national security, and critical infrastructure.
Rocket Lab emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and a practical mindset. The environment is fast-paced, deadline-driven, and centered on delivery, with people expected to support one another and stay focused on outcomes.
