About Rocket Lab
Rocket Lab is a comprehensive space enterprise offering responsive launch services, spacecraft design and manufacturing, payloads, satellite components, and more. Our mission is to democratize access to space with rockets and satellites that support crucial scientific exploration, Earth monitoring, climate change efforts, national security, and innovative technology demonstrations worldwide.
Our Electron rocket ranks as the second most frequently launched U.S. rocket annually, successfully deploying over 230 satellites. Meanwhile, we are developing Neutron, our upcoming medium-lift reusable launch vehicle designed for larger constellation missions. Our Space Systems division engineers and manufactures an extensive range of satellites, payloads, and components, including those chosen for NASA’s Moon and Mars missions as well as parts integrated into the James Webb Space Telescope.
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Manager for Test and Launch Operations who excels when the countdown reaches zero and the world is watching. In this role, you will lead frontline engineering teams responsible for critical testing and launch activities of both Electron and Neutron vehicles, playing a vital role in sustaining Rocket Lab’s impressive launch frequency.
You will build high-performing teams, develop operational frameworks, and be the driving force behind seamless execution of complex missions. This leadership position requires balancing rigorous safety protocols with the agility to maintain competitiveness in a dynamic industry. You will also handle regulatory compliance, drive ongoing improvements, and set the pace for an industry eagerly observing our advancements.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification
- Over 8 years of aerospace engineering experience focused on testing and operations
- At least 3 years of experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
- Broad practical engineering experience covering fluid mechanics, electrical and power systems, automation, instrumentation and control systems, and software integration
- Proven expertise in propulsion systems, test engineering, and ground test operations
- Strong knowledge of launch vehicle and spacecraft systems, including mission operations
- Ability to make rapid, effective decisions and troubleshoot anomalies under high-pressure conditions
- Demonstrated success in motivating and developing engineering teams in challenging operational settings
Additional Desirable Skills
- Experience in real-world rocket launch operations
- Familiarity with launch vehicle testing or launch site operations
- Working knowledge of compliance with FAA, RCC, NASA, and USAF regulations
Work Environment and Culture
This position demands dedication beyond conventional hours, as space missions often require intense commitment beyond standard workdays. If you are an ambitious engineer eager to make significant contributions to space exploration, national security, and critical infrastructure, this role is perfect. Rocket Lab values engineering excellence, teamwork, and relentless problem-solving to overcome challenges where failure is unacceptable.
At Rocket Lab, you will face meaningful challenges alongside experts who embrace complexity and pressure while remaining supportive and collaborative. We prioritize delivering results over dwelling on obstacles, driven by innovation and commitment.
