Finance Operations Accountant

Role Overview

This role is responsible for managing financial accounting and reporting functions related to leases and inventory, ensuring compliance with IFRS 16 standards and delivering detailed financial analyses to support decision-making within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead month-end, quarterly, and year-end closing activities including journal entries, reconciliations, accounting analyses, and preparation of reporting schedules for finance and operating leases in line with IFRS 16.
• Interpret lease contracts, oversee modifications and terminations, and maintain reconciliations between lease contracts and fixed asset records adhering to International Accounting Standards.
• Facilitate lease governance forums with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate recording of lease-related events and validate lease liabilities settlement to vendors as per delegated authority.
• Collaborate across departments to gather precise lease data, calculate present values, amortize and unwind leases, and present liabilities correctly while monitoring lease accruals with proper documentation.
• Maintain and analyze inventory records, conducting regular cycle counts to verify physical inventory matches system records.
• Calculate obsolescence provisions according to established policies and provide insights for optimal inventory management.
• Manage accurate accounting for device sales involving installment plans, deferred payments, and rentals, ensuring proper discounting, revenue recognition, and reporting of billed/unbilled receivables with supporting documents.
• Oversee accounting adjustments related to cash backs, rebates, and other inventory modifications ensuring compliance with IFRS.
• Develop and improve accounting policies regarding leases and inventory, leading policy finalizations to maintain compliance with accounting standards.
• Prepare detailed lease and inventory analysis reports highlighting balance movements and income statement impacts, summarize for management review, and actively engage in review meetings.
• Analyze complex transactions independently under IFRS guidelines and implement controls, reconciliations, and checkpoints for accurate reporting.
• Implement and monitor financial controls to mitigate errors and fraud, updating controls to address new risks.
• Coordinate with both internal and external auditors, providing documentation and clarifications to ensure clean audit outcomes.
• Identify and drive opportunities for financial operations optimization and automation, contributing to process efficiency and accuracy projects.
• Execute additional tasks and projects as assigned by the Line Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, or an equivalent field is required.
• Possession of a Qualified Accountant certification and/or a Master's degree in Commerce or Finance is essential.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in financial accounting and reporting, including at least 4 to 5 years dedicated to lease accounting (IFRS 16) and inventory accounting, preferably within the Telecommunications industry.
• Proficient hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion ERP system for lease and inventory management and advanced skills in Excel, particularly related to vendor management.
